whats it with intolerance that has made it the most popular flavour of the season? its got to do with the fact that its got so many parts that cater to a wide variety of tastes...religious, gender based(the absolutely monstrous attacks in mangalore and indeed in many other parts of the country), region specific( MNS in maharashtra), class based(the "pub n mall culture").....
actually, all of the above types of outbursts are in direct conflict with the very fundas of democracy, making them all perfect candidates to be clubbed together as the country's biggest internal security threat, along with naxalism which takes it roots in opposition to democracy itself.
first-the talk about the latest stuff floating about- the "pub n mall culture". TOI 's annalytical report says that its a tool used by politicians to target the psychological and mindset "gap" prevalent in between 2 of the many indias that inhabit this country. one of them is what is percieved to be the socially "reformed" and developed india, not necessarily the rich. the other one is the india that i like to call the social fuchas....newbies that have been shaken by a jolt of freedom, often so intense that it pains, and not many can handle, simply becoz its not easy to change from conservative to liberal in 60 seconds.
they say that a sort of imbalance exists between city and rural folks. they couldnt have been more right. it does exist. ask me-the kind of guys i have in my class. but dont mistake me for being warped in my views.....rural folks are well versed with talks of them being backward and all....and they'll point out that the so called reformed city folks aint that civilised after all.they break traffic rules with impunity...they bribe as if it was an official procedure.they're as bad with garbage management as anyone else.
if on the one side, city folks think that the villagers are no good at anything other than manual labour and peeing on the roadside and spitting on a passer-by's foot, rural guys think of the city folks as bloody greedy, moraly and culturaly void creatures having a prejudice like shit.
who's right...who's wrong....who's more important? both are....both have their places....like software and hardware...each is necessary for the other's survival.
yes its disgusting to see the illiterate rural folks going about their business just about anywhere. and its disgusting for the city folks comming up with no respect for the small towner even though it might just be him who'll get us our next olympic medal or football (okay...cricket....slightly realistic) world cup and its him who displays not just great leadership, but also great entrepreneurship and innovation by virtue of being exposed to harsher conditions of living.
but the most disgusting of 'em all is a third party taking advantage of our differences, real or otherwise. check out rajasthan "CM" as an example. take our neighbouring country as an example.
so the solution is to understand that united the brownie stands and divided the brownie crumbles.
let the "enforcement" agencies ensure that barbarians and wannabe-talibans live happily ever after in jails and lets be intolerant towards intolerance itself

I agree with the psychological tool bit. I saw shaina n from bjp on tv and she was actually saying pubs are bad etc etc.. she looked like she really didn't mean it but was forced to say it becoz of the party she belonged to.
